In Fine Light For Denmark Place Baptist Church
We become humbled when faced with the Elements. We marvel in awe at the power of water through the seas and rains: feel restored by nearness to fast moving rivers, trickling streams or tranquil lakes.
Water has always represented aspects of our spiritual life, giving us, in this context, a sense of peace, rebirth and renewal.
I draw parallels with watery stains as this work also reflects my fascination with the Turin Shroud: how many believe Christ’s image to be transfixed in the cloth drawn over His body in the tomb.
I hope to reflect the calmness and stillness of this church through simple marks created with watery-pigmented fluid onto watercolour paper.
The longer one looks at these watercolours images will emerge as our imagination is stimulated, like making pictures from the clouds.
